The Playstation 3 (PS3) dualshock 3 controller is known for its robustness and high precision. As with any wireless controller, the battery will deplet in a few years of use though. In this post I will show you how to replace the battery. Replacement batteries are standard 3.7V Li.Ion types that can be purchased at Amazon, AliExpress, eBay etc. I bought a 1800 mAh replacement which should be a good replacement with reasonable playtime between charges. To replace the battery, all you need is a small Philips screwdriver, as shown below.
First, locate the five screws on the back of your PS3 controller, and remove them. When disassmbling the controller, make sure to be careful so the springs of the L/R trigger buttons don’t get lost.
Second, locate the old battery, and gently disattach it.
Third, attach the new battery.
Fourth, when re-assambling the controller, make sure to align the springs of the R/L-trigger buttons!
Done! You can now continue to use your PS3 controller. Happy gaming!
